Wondering what the Mpls. & St. Paul Home Tour is all about?
Having had my own home on the tour I have some insights. The tour is great way to get to know your neighbors as well as the established, up-and-coming and revitalized neighborhoods in the Twin Cities metro area.
Back in 1992 my wife worked for the city of Minneapolis coordinating this event. She knew it was a great way to strengthen the fabric of a neighborhood and to show people what “city living” is all about.
So, in 2004 she convinced me to put our new home at 1384 Ashland Avenue in St Paul on this tour. We really didn’t know what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised, if not overwhelmed, by the enthusiasm, appreciation and amount of tour goers- an entire busload of people came to see our house! We were able to field questions about the schools, local shopping, transportation and safety . I also answered a lot of question about appliances, paint colors, flooring and cabinets.
The Mpls. & St. Paul Home Tour showcases remodeling projects, new construction as well as the cities’ established and sometimes famous homes. The homeowners are truly proud of their homes and their community. It’s a great way to meet people, get out for a free weekend and see how people have adapted their living spaces for their unique needs and budgets. I recommend this event.
